Separate historical features from current availability
In 2017, Google introduced shopping through Google Assistant and Google Home for participating Google Express retailers. That announcement described a feature for a particular period and retailer set; it does not establish that every Shopify merchant can complete checkout through Google Home today. Google states that the Buy on Google program was discontinued in September 2023.
As of this review, Shopify has a separate Google AI Mode and Gemini sales channel that is rolling out to eligible stores. Direct checkout requires a U.S.-based store selling to U.S. customers, along with Merchant Center and Shopify Catalog eligibility. Customers elsewhere may be redirected to the merchant’s online store to complete a purchase. This is not the same channel as the historical Google Home / Google Express experience.
For a current voice or AI shopping entry point, verify merchant and regional eligibility, product catalog and price/stock synchronization, store policies, account and payment experience, and a reliable fallback to the Shopify store when direct checkout is unavailable. Check current platform documentation and the merchant admin for the latest eligibility. For current product-data, deep-link, privacy, and fallback checks, see Shopify Voice Commerce and Google Home: Data, Deep Links, and Fallbacks.
Outcome claims retained from the original article
The following outcome claims are retained as a record of the original article. This page does not have the underlying studies, client materials, or measurement definitions needed to treat them as independently verified industry benchmarks or reproducible merchant results:
- The original says: “Market data reveals that voice commerce adoption has surged by 30% year-over-year, creating new revenue streams.” It does not identify the market-data source, period, or definition.
- The original says HomeTech Innovations “achieved 50% sales growth after implementation.” It does not provide the implementation period, baseline, or case-study source.
- The original says the original phrase is “cutting checkout times by 50% and minimizing errors.” It provides no test design, sample, or measurement method.
- The original says “Merchants report a 20% rise in international orders after adopting voice integrations.” It does not identify the merchants, source data, or attribution method.
These are claims in the original article, not promises of future results. Client-provided data and case examples may be retained; if the client later supplies supporting material or the original study, add its accurate source, period, and measurement definition.

Frequently asked questions
Can every Shopify merchant accept direct orders through Google Home today?
That cannot be inferred. Google’s Google Home shopping announcement covered participating Google Express retailers in 2017. Check current channel eligibility by merchant, country, device, and platform product.
Is Google AI Mode and Gemini direct checkout the same as Google Home ordering?
No. It is a separate Shopify channel rolling out to eligible merchants. Direct checkout currently requires eligible U.S. stores and customers and depends on Merchant Center and other eligibility requirements.
Have the original 30%, 50%, and 20% outcome figures been independently verified?
This page does not have the source, sample, period, or measurement method. They are retained as original attributed claims, not independent findings or performance promises.
What should a merchant check before launching a voice or AI shopping entry point?
Confirm channel and regional eligibility, keep product, price, stock, and policy data synchronized, then test discovery, deep links, checkout, and fallback to the Shopify store with real accounts.
